Figs

Remember fig rolls - they're gorgeous aren't they?

So you've got this idea of how fig rolls taste, and then you eat a fresh fig...Completely different aren't they?

I like dried figs. Those are the figs that are in fig rolls, dried figs. They look quite disgusting, but they're really sweet and delicious and nutritious and 'keep you regular'.

Fresh figs are delicious - but in a completely different way to dried figs.
Just thought I'd mention that one

Dried mango and Fruit gums

I love dried mango, it looks like dried goldfish.

Peach slices also remind me of goldfish too, and i like to swallow peach slices whole and pretend I'm Kevin Kline off 'A Fish Called Wanda'.

Anyway, dried mango is a really delicious, chewy, sweet and nutritious food.  The problem is, it just gets stuck in my teeth and I spend more time picking it out that I spend eating it.

Fruit gums used to be like that too. I'd be stood in the cornershop debating 'fruit pastilles or fruit gums' fruit pastilles won everytime - I couldn't be arsed to pick the fruit gums out of my teeth for the rest of the day.

Mushroom soup

Eating it today for lunch, home made, and of course it's delicious. But it has to be the most ugly looking thing in the world. I used to hate mushroom soup when me mum made it, I've followed the Hugh FW recipe.

To the untrained eye, it's grey sludge. And looks even LESS appealing when it's brought into work, straight out of the freezer in a freezer bag. Frozen lump of grey sludge.

But bloody 'ell it's lovely.

Parsnips

I'm only making this point because I know a fellow blogger has issues here.

Parsnips can be deceptive.

When presented with a Sunday roast with vegetables, roasted parsnips and potatoes look very similar indeed.

I used to fall foul of forking a 'potato' and getting a 'parsnip'. At the time, I didn't like roasted parsnips - they just weren't right.

Since growing monster parsnips on my allotment, I've accepted them into my hectic life. Now I always make sure that potatoes and parsnips are cut very differently so that know what I'm getting every time.
